Aggiungi il Primo Dispositivo UniFi

Summary Adopting a UniFi device in MKController connects your Ubiquiti hardware to a cloud-hosted controller, removing the need for a local UniFi controller server. Two methods are available: the Adoption Assistant automatically scans for devices on the same network as an adopted MikroTik router, while the Manual method works across any network using an SSH set-inform command.

What Does Adopting a UniFi Device in MKController Mean?

Adopting a UniFi device in MKController means pointing the device at MKController’s cloud-hosted UniFi controller using the set-inform command. Once adopted, the device appears in MKController’s unified dashboard alongside any MikroTik devices you manage — no local UniFi controller software or server required.

MKController supports Ubiquiti access points, switches, and gateways. The UniFiController module is part of MKController’s broader platform, enabling ISPs, WISPs, and IT integrators to manage mixed MikroTik and UniFi networks from a single interface.

What Are the Requirements?

Before starting, confirm the following:

  • You have an active MKController account with at least one adopted MikroTik device.
  • You have physical or remote access to the UniFi device you want to adopt.
  • The UniFi device has internet connectivity.

Which Adoption Method Should You Use?

MethodWhen to use
Adoption Assistant (recommended)The UniFi device and your MikroTik device are on the same network
Manual AdoptionThe devices are on different networks, or you prefer a step-by-step approach

The Adoption Assistant scans the network where your MikroTik is located, finds compatible UniFi devices, and lets you adopt them with a single click.

Requirements for Adoption Assistant

  • The UniFi device is on the same network as an already-adopted MikroTik device.
  • That MikroTik is reachable and online in MKController.

Step 1: Open the Adoption Assistant

In the Devices area of your MKController account, click Add Device + and then select Adoption Assistant.

Add Device menu in MKController — select Adoption Assistant

Step 2: Let the System Scan

MKController uses the adopted MikroTik on the same network to scan for nearby UniFi devices. Wait for the results.

When the device appears, click Adopt Device.

Step 3: Configure the Device

Assign a display name to the device and select a Site to organize it into.

Step 4: Complete the Adoption

Wait for the adoption process to finish. Once complete, the device is live in your MKController dashboard.

Method 2: Manual Adoption

Use this method when the UniFi device and MikroTik are on different networks, or when you prefer direct control over the adoption process.

Step 1: Start Manual Adoption

In the Devices area, click Add Device + and select Unifi.

Step 2: Create the Device Record

Assign a name to the device, select a Site, and enter the device’s MAC address.

Step 3: Run the set-inform Command

After completing Step 2, MKController provides a set-inform command specific to your controller.

Access the UniFi device via SSH and run that command. If the device is connected to a MikroTik, you can use the MikroTik as a jump host:

Terminal window
/system ssh <antenna-IP> user=<USER>

For factory-default UniFi devices, the SSH username and password are both ubnt.

Step 4: Complete the Adoption

Wait for the process to finish. Once the UniFi device contacts the MKController controller, the adoption is complete and the device appears in your dashboard.

What Can You Do After Adoption?

Once adopted, your UniFi devices are visible in the same MKController dashboard as your MikroTik devices. From here you can monitor connectivity, apply updates, assign tags and locations, and access the UniFi mobile app integration for on-the-go management.
