FAQ Voucher

Whether you’re setting up your first hotspot or managing dozens of sites with voucher-based Wi-Fi access, MKController simplifies it all. This FAQ is here to help you master the Voucher system—from captive portal setup to upcoming payment features and data limits.

Do I need a separate voucher for each antenna or access point?No. As long as your antennas (or additional access points) are configured as bridges and not routers, a single voucher will work across all of them. Just ensure all devices are connected to the same MikroTik hotspot setup within MKController.
The voucher login screen isn't showing. What should I check?Make sure that the MikroTik device you're using is correctly linked to a configured hotspot in MKController. If not, the captive portal will not be displayed, and users won't see the login screen. Also confirm the IP pool is correctly set.
What's the difference between Single Usage and Multi Usage vouchers?When creating a voucher batch, you can choose:
  • Single Usage: Allows only one device to connect at a time per voucher.
  • Multi Usage: Supports multiple devices simultaneously using the same code.
This is defined under the "Usage Mode" during voucher creation.
If someone buys a 4-hour voucher but disconnects after 2 hours, what happens?The session time continues running in real time from the moment the voucher is first used. It does not pause when the user disconnects.

Can I add a data limit to each voucher?✅ Yes! You can define a data limit in MB or GB when generating voucher batches. This is useful for bandwidth control or managing consumption in areas with limited internet, such as satellite links.
Can I limit the connection speed (bandwidth) of a voucher?Not yet. Speed limits per voucher are not available currently, but this feature is planned for release in Q4 2025.

Can customers pay for vouchers directly through the captive portal?Not at this moment. For now, vouchers need to be issued manually or printed beforehand.

Can I customize the login screen that users see when connecting?✅ Yes! Using MKController's built-in Builder tool, you can personalize the captive portal with:
  • Your logo
  • A welcome message
  • Marketing images
  • Terms of use
All customization is done directly from the MKController interface.
How can I monitor which vouchers are active or used?You can track all active sessions, data usage, and remaining time in real time from the "Real-Time" tab on the MKController platform.
Can I print vouchers or export them as PDF?Yes! After generating a voucher batch, you can click on "Print Batch" to either print directly or download a PDF version to distribute manually.
Can I track who used each voucher?Currently, MKController vouchers work anonymously and don’t require user identification. However, we are evaluating options to allow for optional logging and identification in future versions.
Can I limit the number of devices that use the same voucher?Yes. When generating vouchers, choose between:
  • Single-Device mode (one connection at a time)
  • Multi-Device mode (shared simultaneous access)
This gives you full control over voucher behavior.
Can I create vouchers that are limited by data only, with no time limit?✅ Yes. You can create data-only vouchers by setting a data cap (e.g., 1GB) and leaving the time duration field blank.
Can I combine time and data limits in the same voucher?Yes! You can define both time and data limits when creating a voucher batch, offering total flexibility and control over access.
